system lockups

I'm getting system lockups randomly when using AFPD 1.8.0.17. PC is a Dell Inspiron 9100, P4 HT 2.8 ghz, video is ATI 9700 with 64mb. OS is WinXP Home SP2 with all the latest updates. I have downloaded and installed the very latest firmware and drivers for all the hardware. AFPD may run fine for 30+ minutes then lock up the system (can't soft reboot), or do it right away. Only AFPD fails. Only AFPD running at time of failure. Tried both vertical sync on and off. Window mode (1024x768), texture high, texture compression. FPS ~200. Other 3D games run fine. Only AFPD fails.

Have a look at the "bildschirm friert immer wieder ein" topic....
I had the same problem and have solved it. It was a question of installing the lastest driver, allthough I could not get it from the chip manufacturer or the laptop manufacturer!!!!!! You are for sure not the only one having this problem.
