Andreas Preissler's Handbook in German is offered for download in Torsten Hans's posting in this forum here:
http://www.ipacs.de/forum/showthread.php/4334-Entwickler-Tools-f%C3%BCr-AF5?p=18148#post18148

I am translating this into English. But I'm having one or two problems. Take this sentence:
"In der Sonderversion von Aerofly5 können diese verschiedenen Objekte, mit Ausnahme des Sounds, angezeigt werden."
I have translated 'Sonderversion' as 'Expert Mode in the model editor'. But in all the various online dictionaries that I have seen, it translates as 'special version'.

This suggests that there is or will be a special version of Aerofly5 for model developers. I can't believe that. But I must ask for confirmation please. Does the sentence refer to Expert Mode or something else?

I take the sense of that sentence that the sound parameters must be set directly in the TMD file and do not appear within the Expert Mode of the Model Editor.

Am I right?

Hi Mike,

yes there is a "special version" for developers which shows the physics of a plane/helicoper. And yes the sound has to be set up in the .tmd

Wow, Andi!
How do I get a copy of the special version? Or is it not released yet. Possibly, Marc Borchers's promise of automatically generated moments of inertia is one of the items in it.

Hi Mike,

well, you have to ask Marc or Torsten, as far as i know the tools still have Beta status.

Just ask them.

The automatically generated moments of inertia will be done if you load the model the first time and save it. While saving a lot more things will be calculated and saved, but dont ask me what...

Hi Mike,

this is Andreas Preissler the writer of the mentioned document. The version of the tutorial which Torsten offers for download was first made for developers only and therefore it is based on a special developer version of the AeroFly5. This is not valid any more as all versions from 5.1.0.3 on have a special feature. Press <Control + F12> to enable the "physics info". That's a graphical help to see the rigidbodies and other physical stuff. This is according to my opinion essential to setup a model for the simulator. What you can not see, if physics info is enabled, is the sound stuff. I think this is easy to understand, how could a sound be "visible" ;-)
There is an other goody which is not yet mentioned in this version of the tutorial and that's the key combination <shift + F12>. With this combination you can reload the model in exact the same position it currently is. That's also a key feature in my opinion. Often you setup your point of view e.g. to watch a retractable gear, make some changes in the TMD and after reloading the model, you start again to setup your view. With shift + F12 is is past.

The tutorial will be enlarged and adapted to new features as they are available in the AeroFly. Your attempt to translate this tutorial shows the enormous interest all over the world. I guess, we should do this job and offer an English version promptly. I'll talk to Marc about that.

Have a nice weekend,
Andreas

Andreas, thank you so much. Yes, I think you and your team have a world beater. Other than MS FSX and Aerofly, the rest appear to be toys offering very little in the way of an intellectual challenge. Aerofly offers ready access to the Physics and in this respect has a very different market to FSX. So your news is very welcome indeed. I congratulate you enormously for bringing the project to fruition. I think you have a fabulous team. If only I was 20 or so years younger, I would love so much to be a member of your team. Thirty years ago, our software team at Texas Instruments, Bedford UK, thought of ourselves as the best in the world. The spirit of cohesion between us and our sky-high morale enabled us to do great things. I see the same attitudes with IPACS. I am very very envious.

Marc, Andreas seems to have answered my question to you. I presume that an English version of 5.1.0.3 will be available soon. 5.1.0.1 is the latest available for download at the moment. Please forgive my stumbling efforts to understand the Physics with my maths.

I wonder how much I am missing in the forum with my lack of German. Would it be possible to categorize the topics: software problems, interface problems, requests for future functionality, graphics and sound problems, and, for me at least, physics etc? The use of online machine translation is not an efficient way of determining what is of interest. I think a categorization would be a big help and open the forum to an even wider audience.

Best wishes
Mike
