    Smile Hang in there

    Cajunfly,

I too had that error message after attempting to install it and spent several frustrating hours this Christmas holiday without luck. Hang in there, it's definitely worth it. The message is not specific enough for most computer types to decipher what is wrong but I know that you and I are not the first to run into this. I found that just as they said, I didn't follow the installation directions. Exactly. Unlike most Mac programs or DMG files, if you look in those directions, you'll see there's an *extra* step of dragging things onto the desktop that one normally does not have to do to install a program from a disk image. I thought I had done everything correctly initially but when I did do the extra drag step, a whole bunch of files were now being transferred that hadn't been before, and now it really does work pretty well (just an occasional crash of the software as opposed to my crashing planes left and right. Once you are up and running you can also find a lot of free downloadable files of other planes, helis, scenaries, etc. I can save you another adventure by pointing out that you really do need the AFPD planes (they have several products and the planes in AF 5 aren't backward compatible because it's a different program). When you find some for AFPD, they will be either formatted for Mac right up front, or as windows .exe files. In the case of the .exe files, get Stuffit Expander (free) and drag the files onto the Stuffit icon. Then the airplane file goes in the airplane folder, and the sound file goes in the sound folder within the aerofly folder. You'll need to calibrate (one-time only for each radio or the commander) using the calibrate button. Lastly, I was such a newbie that I didn't realize that although the game commander was mode 2, that has no connection to the channel assignments. These are found in the Controls section of the program. You'll need to tinker a bit with them but for most planes I found that throttle is Ch2, elvevator is Ch3, rudder is Ch4, and ailerons Ch1. The problems I have now are just that in some of the free downloaded models I don't have any sound, sometimes I can't figure out how to get a canopy to close, and sometimes the planes have no color. But considering I must have about 150 now and most work, that's not bad. Hope that helps and I hope someone else reading this has suggestions on my own question. I am not much of a programmer.

For anyone else reading this, I did figure out the canopy question using the advanced settings. There is probably a better way but I figured it out through a process of elimination which channel it was set for. I still would like to get color and sound on a couple of planes that don't have it though.

    Default I figured it out!

    DrC,

Thanks for your response. After posting my problem I realized that if the install instructions aren't followed exactly the Aerofly program won't work. So, I decided to try one last time and it worked. Installing this program is different than any other mac program I ever installed. Not sure why it has to be so difficult? Thanks for your help and the additional information. Best regards!

    Cajunfly,

Glad it's up and running. Have fun!
